Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) free essay sample

An analysis of the article Assessing ADHD Across Settings: Contributions of Behavioral Assessment to Categorical Decision Making. This paper examines the above psychological article and describes the research process in school age children. The paper also challenges the practice of using a single cut-off or threshold, recommended in DSM-IV, to determine the number of symptoms needed to make a diagnosis of ADHD. In the article Assessing ADHD Across Settings: Contributions of Behavioral Assessment to Categorical Decision Making, researchers attempted to adapt methods of behavioral assessment to assess home and school functioning in a way that maps directly to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th edition), DSM IV (Power 2001). A school-based sample of five to twelve year of children who had been referred to a school intervention team were the participants of the study. Children were assigned to one of three groups using a multi-gate set of procedures.
